Frequently Asked Questions
In the first session, I will conduct an overall assessment about your background, your current life circumstances, and goals for therapy. This will help me tailor your therapy plan and customize the approach based on your situation and goals. You will have a chance to express your concerns and ask me questions to make sure you feel we would be a good fit to work together. Each session is typically 50-60 minutes. We will set goals and plan together, and do check-ins on your progress regularly throughout our work together.
Yes, what you say here stays here. Your privacy is very important, it is my personal and professional duty to protect your privacy and maintain confidentiality. There are only a few exceptions to this. If you disclosure information that leads me to suspect potential child abuse, elder abuse, abuse of any vulnerable person, and harm to yourself or others, I am required by law to make a report. This is done to keep you and others safe.
To protect and respect your privacy, I will pretend I don’t know you if I see you in the community, unless you feel comfortable in that situation. Please don’t be offended by this. I respect your privacy and want to keep you from feeling being exposed.
Every difficulty and crisis in life presents us an opportunity to learn and grow by modifying our perspectives and the influence of problems in our lives. Counseling/therapy provides you a space to view and cope those challenges through encouraging and empowering ways with the support of your therapist. You and I will collaboratively work together and reach an agreement on the goals. I will facilitate safe and non-judgmental dialogues with you to explore your deeper needs, relationship dynamics, your strengths, and rewarding outcomes.
If you are still not sure if therapy is right for you, contact me and we can discuss it further.
Depends on your presenting issues and needs, the counseling process might take 8-12 sessions before you experience noticeable changes. Consistency and motivation is the key. I recommend you to begin weekly therapy and slowly transition into bi-monthly based on your progress and need. You will often know when you have achieved your initial goals. At this point, I am happy to review the tools and skills you have learned and assist you to transition. I am also happy to continue our therapeutic relationship to provide you a safe place for regular check-in and support.
